One of my favorite kids snack is the celery log. Spread peanut butter onto celery sticks, and sprinkle raisins on top. I personally don’t like the raisins but the kids do.

Take house cleaning as an opportunity to teach your child about organization and charity. As you clean, pack up things you no longer want or need to donate to charity. Have your child do the same. Instead of them constantly pushing old toys to the side, teach the value of donating them to others. Alright, so they are well rested and, I’m sure, eager for the first day. If you have elementary aged kids you might want to pick out an outfit or two, for the first day, ahead of time. It tends to make the first few days a little less hectic in the morning. And, no matter how well prepared we think we are, we always make sure we have the grab and go breakfasts, like hot pockets, pop tarts, etc. for when my teenaged son wakes up three minutes before his first class starts.

Encourage exercise. If you’ve been wise, you have ensured that your child spent a good part of the summer engaged in physical activity rather than vegetating in front of the TV or a game console. Encourage your child to participate in school sports and games, and encourage your school to schedule periods of exercise.

While it is true that time management for parents is a challenge, it also holds true that when you use good time management skills, you set a good example for your kids. Helping your children structure their day makes it easier for everyone to get things done. It also makes the time you spend with your children more enjoyable.
